E3D network
Costing, detailed design
- LLB has reviewed elements of detailed design
- LLB has reviewed and aggregating costing
- The design has a number of "pollutant" from general network wishes and NREN or NORDUnet level
- HOWEVER, we have enough input that we can calculate a ballpark figure for the part E3D should pay for.
- Teemu: we should include also additional manpower cost
- Cost is 250k€ / yr
Principles
- We ask E3D to pay for additional fibre and additional equipment
- We cost based on only the service E3D need (i.e., 1 channel one fibre, 10GE, etc)
- We may build with additional facilities to enable additional use in the future. Cost of such facilities (i.e., more expensive filters for the optical system
Contract
- Single between NORDUnet and EISCAT
- Contract terms not known
- Upfront fee? There might be a non-recurring cost for fibre.
- Or only annual fee. For now, we prefer annual fee. Duration? Not shorter than five years, 10 years is fine.
Next steps
- Network drawing of E3D part
- Costing and cost justification for E3D part
- Background document for E3D
- Deadline: 7 June 2018
- F2F meeting w E3D
- LF to present cost and contract options to the board, ask for advice on risk and terms
- LF to contact Craig about meeting
NDN Next Gen
- Quist reviewed the fibre path options.
- We have consensus inside the Nordics, and we now where and what the links are
- We have rough consensus for the international part, er know where we want to be and the options
- We have reasonable cost understanding.
- We have three fundamental options (at different cost)
- We have some outstanding questions about European links, due to unresolved issues w GÉANT, European NRENs, or vendor cost not yet available.
- Qvist will give consensus presentation to NDN Board.
- Olaf: it is important to highlight the Nordic consensus process that lead to this
- Qvist will share board report and presentation with design group
