Meeting Notes

  1. Tender updates
    1. IP equipment tender being broken into two
      1. NDN will lead a tender for support and supplies for existing networks
      2. FUNET is driving a RFI and later tender for major new equipment procurement.
      3. It's not clear how or if this will be used to provide campuses w/ network-as-a-service offers
    2. LMS tender is facing process challenges.  We're currently awaiting recommendations from lawyers
    3. VCONF: contracts in place. Proof of concept is running.  Call-off is going out. NDN will be building a new ops environment based on experience from proof-of-concept. and launch as soon as the call-off process is ready. Ahead of deployment, some testing in needed.
    4. Media Management: Currently three contenders, looking good so far. We're expecting good offers.  Qvist to involve the media group in discussion about the proposed solutions.
    5. CSCS tenders: two offers.  Scoring will be done next week
    6. Martin points out that, for NREN users, it is major value add that we do join framework tenders for both hardward, software, and services
  2. Big Users
    1. ESS: Still missing agreement on connectivity in DK.  Pelle to meet with new ESS director. 
    2. EISCAT: We're optimistic. 
    3. LHC: Situation for computation and LHC networking in Norway. LF to call for LHC networking meeting. 
  3. Roundtable
    1. DeIC: 
      1. delivery of new optical network accepted.  Transfer of traffic in progress.    
      2. Danish state institutions are being told to move to the "national state IT service", including networking.  This includes libraries and museums doing research.  DeIC is engaging with the process to convince the agency to keep research on DeIC
    2. FUNET: Network upgrade nearing completion. 
    3. RHnet:  Network upgrade in northern Iceland (to 10G) in planning. 
    4. SUNET: 
      1. Get eduroam initiative.  Started as the "eduroam in the cloud" idea. Objective is to increase eduroam penetration w users.  The small group work is reaching a conclusion.  Leif will circulate proposal.  Leif is proposing that NORDUnet take on the project (and associated cost).  If time allows, we will discuss on the CTO list, and NDN will put a discussion item to the June NDN BoD meeting. 
      2. SUNET has held a customer workshop for MS Azure under IaaS, and with CloudMore for a could broker solution. SUNET may go ahead with a broker platform.
      3. SUNET is considering a "security-as-a-Service" for smaller for campuses.
    5. UNINETT: 
      1. State IT re-organization currently in political process
      2. Petter Kongshaug is retiring 1 Sep 2017.  CEO hiring process expected to be in place by early November
      3. UNINETT technical workshop recently held.  280 attendees.
      4. New Tromsø HPC facility opening May '19.
      5. UNINETT is pushing for a campus security initiative, and have secured funding from ministry of education. Given that there's also a SUNET early initiative, joint work is an option. 
      6. GDPR is a worry, lots of discussion in the community.  We should investigate join information sharing as a minimum.
  4. EC update
    1. EC is really pushing for innovation and job creation, which means far mor integration of RI's with industry.
    2. Plenty for money for 
  5. NORDUnet update
    1. Hong Kong: router has finally arrived.  Expected to be up 2nd half May. 
    2. 2017 upgrade: "south of HAM" upgrade to 100G and HEL-HAM 100G planned for next 6 month.  STO and COP T-series routers have been replaced (w/ MX 2010's).  
    3. eduVPN prototype instance is ready for testing.   JQ will announce test availability.  Many streams of development going
  6. Meeting schedules
    1. Month VC should stay at last thursday of month 10-12
    2. NDN will doodle for quarterly meetings for the next 12 months.
    3. Next F2F probably late august.
