About the Nordic Media Group

The Nordic Media Group is a forum with participants from Nordic NRENs including NORDUnet, and open to participants from the campuses connected by the Nordic NRENs. The main goal of the forum is to allow sharing information all forms of media technology and media services relevant to research and education in the Nordic area. Discussion is focused on 

  • Operations and issues of established services
  • Requirements and ideas for new services or updates of existing services
  • Technologies related to the services area

All forms of media services are relevant to the groups, but in particular two types of services are discussed

  • Meeting and conferencing services, including H.323 meeting services and desktop meeting services, webcasting, classroom conferencing, and more
  • Video capture, storage, and streaming services, including embeddable media

The main activity of the group fall in three areas

  • A mailing list
  • Weekly conference calls, alternating between bi-weekly calls on conferencing services and bi-weekly calls on video services
  • Topical workshops on relevant topics, often held in relation to larger meetings such as the NORDUnet Techical Workshop or NREN conferences

Logistics

Membership of the NONF is open for staff from Nordic NRENs, NORDUnet, and campus IT.  Others may be invited on an ad-hoc basis.

Workshops:

The main forum meetings will be hold as workshops once/twice a year depends on need. We will try to collocate the workshops with NORDUnet events.

Beside the ordinary regular network updates report/presentation from NRENs we will also dedicate each workshop to a certain topic of general interest.
