2.2 TODO-list

  • TNC2011 presentation was held successfully
  • mark federated services: DONE. Uninett, Funet and RHNet have updated the information
  • The cross access for the wiki: JQ has fixed the permissions
  • The update of the service matrix: JM has contacted the parties
  • Study comparing GRID and cloud: the link has not been sent to the group mailing list, yet.
  • NORDUnet Cloud plans: the NORDUnet inspiration paper is now available.
  • the BoF was arranged. JM will send the notes to the list

Comments: pending items

  • eCampus: rescheduled to Aug 2011, material is available at http://blog.ecampus.no (in Norwegian)
  • IPTV activation: the workshop was held and it was considered to be a success. The establishment of the mailing list and a blog is going on.
  • Group wiki: content structure is due Aug 2011
  • shared service template: is due to Aug 2011

2.3 New work area in the Wiki

  • the item was tabled until the work area structure is available
3. Short update for the last 3 months (approximately 3 main issues)

3.1 Funet

  • Funet has cross-border fiber activity towards Estonia, Sweden and Norway
  • the virtual router service is being investigated. The virtual routers could serve as access router for universities.
  • IPv6 transition framework has been developed for Funet members
  • Funet is piloting NORDUnet MCU service. The service is planned to available in September 2011.
  • Adobe connect pro: the needs are being polled from the universities and polytechnics
  • campus workgroups have been established and they are active. National best current practice documents have been composed.

3.2 Sunet

  • the anti-spam e-mail filtering service is getting more popular and gaining more customers
  • media distribution distribution service is being tested by the reference group. The service is developed based on the feedback from the reference group. The system was used successfully during the NORDUnet2011 conference.

3.3 Uni-C/FSKNet

  • the world IPv6 day: FSKNet is providing an IPv6 testbed for everyone in Denmark. The testbed will stay for now. The intention is to support the IPv6 deployment: http://www.forskningsnettet.dk/en/node/1137
  • the return of investment document made on the FSKnet activities 2010 is translated in English. The document is available at the FSKNet web site: http://www.forskningsnettet.dk/en/node/1130
  • the Danish government has published a national roadmap for e-Infrastructures. The NREN is considered to be a key part of the national infrastructure. The NREN may be merged into the new national e-science infrastructure organization.

3.4 RHNET

  • RHNET is essentially an infrastructure provider at the moment
  • the external connectivity is now in a good status after the NORDUnet network has extended to US. The focus in the development has shifted to the developement of the internal national network
  • Sweden, Norway and Denmark are going to install a pilot supercomputing facility to Iceland. The Dutch and English have similiar plans. The site will be connected to RHNET.

3.5 UNINETT

  • there has been an organizational reform at UNINETT. The departments have been composed based on the end user groups. The NREN network and the related services are collected under the same department. The new organization started on the 1st of June 2011.
  • eCampus program has been working on the media management. A work flow diagram has been drawn up. The work has revealed several practical challenges.
  • High availability studies have been performed and they have been resulted in prototype services which are published using anycast.

3.6 NORDUnet

  • NORDUnet has had discussions with Adobe concerning ACP licensing.
  • decision: MB, Jan Mayer (Uninett) and Lars Skogan (Uninett) will support JQ in the negotiations.
  • http://nordunet.tv service is now in production
4. Service Matrix

4.1 Status for the Service Matrix

  • there was discussion about the marking syntax
    • how to tag a service in a service map, if the service is provided by some else NREN?
    • suggestion: the use of small flags or the national two-letter codes (DK, FI, ...) for indicating the provider NREN
  • decision: the country codes will be used for shared services
  • decision: NORDUnet starts investigating possibilities to provide the FileSender service to the community

4.2. Cloud services

  • UNINETT has started planning on cloud systems
  • decision: Magnus will provide the draft to the WG when it is mature enough
  • decision: the item will be revisited in the next meeting

4.3. Update of the shared services

  • decision: JM will update the table
5. Legal and contractual issues
  • the work with the ACP licencing is a starting point for the group
  • NORDUnet has done initial investigations on legal limitations on procurements
  • decision: the area will be investigated on case-by-case basis
6. Any other business
  • UNINETT high-availability investigations
    • OS gave an overview on ideas behind the activity and the work done
    • Several services have been introduced as high-availability versions with more to come. The solutions have required in-house coding.
    • decision: a workshop on the HA will be arranged on Wednesday September 7th 2011. The event will be held in Helsinki as a satellite event to the inter-NREN meeting (OS is responsible)
7. Next meeting
  • the next meeting will be Thursday September 8th 2011 Finland (Helsinki or some other location) (JM is responsible)
