Nordic Participation

NORDUnet is a member of the GN2 consortium. The project is now in it's final year.

NORDUnet acts as coordinator for the effort contributed by the Nordic community.
NORDUnet oversees project budgets and financial reporting and assist partners in making agreements on project contributions.

GN3 information and Status

NORDUnet has participated in the preparation of the GN3 project and contributed to the project proposal. As in GN2, NORDUnet will be GN3 partner on behalf of the Nordic community, and work will be contributed by both NORDUnet and the Nordic NRENs.

NORDUnet will act as GN3 coordinator for Nordic participation.

The GN3 Consortium (representing European NRENs) submitted a project proposal to the EU on 11 September 2009.  The proposal is currently in review.  It is expected that the evaluation will complete by end 2008. If the evaluation is successful, negotiations of project contract will commence in January 2009.  The expected start date of GN3 is April 2009.

The GN3 consortium will begin a GN3 Network Architecture Study in December 2008, in preparation of the start of the project.

GN2 Background Information

The GN2 project delivers and operates the GÉANT network and related service. GÉANT provides a network interconnect of 34 European research and education networks, and develops and operates advanced services for hybrid network provisioning (i.e., AutoBAHN), user mobility (eduroam), identity management (edugain), network monitoring and measurement (PerfSONAR), end-to-end performance support (PERT, End-to-End Coordination Unit), and more.
